Established in Ireland for over 200 years, 1.S. Varian & Co is one of Ireland’s oldest companies.

The Varian family first began making brushes in 1798, when the company was initially formed by Isaac Samuel Varian in Cork. Moving to Dublin in 1856, the business was situated on Talbot Street in the heart of the city, a location that was a landmark for Dubliners for well over a century.

The location comprised the factory as well as a retail operation and Varian was a significant employer in Dublin with nearly 300 people employed there in 1948.

Today the company is still 100% Irish owned and based in Walkinstown, Dublin. Apart from Brushware, a lot of which is still manufactured and assembled in Ireland, it is a leading supplier of products in the respective markets of Hardware, Paint/DIY and Household sectors.
